Kim Cattrall has labelled Ricky Gervais' Golden Globes swipe at Sex and the City 2 as "cheap" and ageist. The 54-year-old actress is best known for her portrayal of man-eater Samantha Jones in the TV show-cum movie franchise, which followed the love lives of a group of glamorous New Yorkers.

Cattrall shows her claws over Gervais' 'cheap' Globes joke

Cattrall was not in the audience when Globes host Gervais made a series of risqué gags about various celebrities, including one about attempts to cover up the true age of the Sex and the City cast."I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster," he joked as castmate Chris Noth laughed and nodded from the audience.

Entertainment attorney George Braunstein, founder of Stars for a Cause, claims he was defamed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which owns the Golden Globe Awards, and its president Philip Berk. Braunstein claims that Berk's defamatory emails and phone calls caused Stars for a Cause sponsors Chrysler and Entertainment Tonight to withdraw from the 2010 Golden Globe charity campaigns.

"Berk knew the statements would damage their professional reputations and ability to conduct business and engage in successful fundraising opportunities," Braunstein and Stars say in their Superior Court complaint.

Ricky Gervais has defended the jokes he made referring to Hollywood stars at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday and insisted he did nothing wrong.

The British comedian has been given mixed reviews about the way he hosted the award ceremony, in which he made jokes about Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Charlie Sheen. He told Piers Morgan’s US talk show that if the organisers didn’t want him then they shouldn’t have hired him.

The family Colin Firth left behind: How he will always be in debt to the reclusive beauty who bore his first son

Helena Bonham-Carter is convinced her co-star Colin Firth will win this year’s Oscar for Best Actor. Even the bookies have him as the odds-on red-hot favourite to scoop the honour for his performance as George VI in The King’s Speech.

The family Colin Firth left behind: How he will always be in debt to the reclusive beauty who bore his first son

It would be a career-crowning moment for 50-year-old Firth, who is expected to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles with his wife Livia Giuggioli, a striking Italian brunette who is the mother of their two children, Luca and Matteo. Theirs is a sweet love story. He fell in love with Livia ‘at first sight’ on the set of the TV dramatisation of Joseph Conrad’s Nostromo 15 years ago. He was the star and she a production assistant.

Black Swan Portman is a rare bird

Posted in : Gossips, Winners

(added last year!)

Black Swan Portman is a rare birdLike you, I’ve watched Natalie Portman grow up on the movie screen. Maybe that’s why I feel a weird sort of parental pride in the actress she has become.

After all, it’s a slippery slope putting a child on the set. Everyone can come up with a list of those burnouts. But Portman won’t be among them. She got A’s in high school, studied psychology at Harvard and has her head on straight.

And the best is yet to come. On Sunday the 29-year-old was awarded the Golden Globe for actress in a drama for her performance as a psychotic ballerina in “Black Swan.” It was her second Globe win — her first was for 2004’s “Closer” — and it merely confirmed what everyone in the industry already knew: Portman is the one to beat in this year’s Oscar race for best actress.

Today marks the opening of her “No Strings Attached,” a romantic comedy co-starring Ashton Kutcher. They play friends who, in the absence of other romantic interests, agree to share extra … benefits.

If “Black Swan” was one seemingly destined for the art-house crowd (it crossed over to the mainstream), the raunchy and sexy “Strings” was custom-made for a Friday night trip to the megaplex.

Golden Globes Insider 2011

Posted in : Gossips

(added last year!)

The Golden Globe Awards, a casual, yet glamorous celebration of the film and television industries brought out Hollywood’s elite in a dazzling display of high fashion and exquisite looks, with some edgy Ricky Gervais remarks thrown in for spice.  Now, that’s a good way to start off the awards season in the Entertainment Capital of the World! The Hollywood Foreign Press impressed every one more this year than any other year before!  And, the talks both on Ricky’s style continued forever just as much as the Fashion Police from Channel E gave a full run down on everyone’s choice of style with Joan Rivers, who is just histerically funny. Gervais and Rivers make these events memorable forever.

Golden Globes Insider 2011

After a red carpet prequel that featured stunning fashion elegance, baby bumps, and the finest talent in town, Gervais opened the show. Big winners included The Social Network, the Aaron Sorkin-penned drama based on the unauthorized book about the founding of Facebook.  The Social Network picked up a lot of friends and some major momentum in the competition for more industry awards as it got the Golden Globes for best drama, director and screenplay, steeling the award from The King’s Speech, which by far is one of the best movies ever made. And, I am not saying that just because the writer, David Seidler is my next door neighbor, who was also nominated as Best Screenplay Writer.

Gervais offends at Golden Globes 2011

Posted in : Nominees

(added last year!)

The 2011 awards season began this past Sunday at the 68th Annual Golden Globes. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais, who did not hold back in his unyielding and harsh opening monologue.

Even though his diatribe was no more than five minutes long, it seemed no one was safe from his mockery. From Charlie Sheen to the Church of Scientology to “The Tourist” and even to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association itself, Gervais offended almost everyone present at the award ceremony. The tension in the air was palpable, as the plethora of celebrities who were in attendance did not seem to find Gervais’ comedy amusing. Nevertheless, the jokes, while quite biting, were still amusing and sharp-witted.
