Fabulous, and hilarious, television mom Sofia Vergara, a.k.a. Gloria on Modern Family, was nominated for a Golden Globe this week. She sat down with Good Morning America to celebrate her nomination. The hot tempered but ultimately wise and understanding mom she plays on T.V. isn’t all that different from her role in real life – she’s a Columbian mom, living in America with a son who can, apparently, be a little bit like her T.V. son Manny sometimes.

She says, however, that she draws a lot of inspiration for her role from her mother: “When I first get the script, before I go to the table read every week, I just think, ‘How would my mother react to this?’ because I want to make it very real,” Vergara told GMA. “I mean, funny, but in a way I want to make it like how a Colombian woman reacts.”
