A trial over who controls the TV rights to the Golden Globe Awards is going to trial, a federal judge has ruled. The awards show's organizers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, sued Dick Clark Productions, which produces the TV show, earlier this year when the production company signed a new deal that would keep the show on NBC through 2018. The FPA says it wants the rights to the popular awards show back to sell to the highest bidder.

 

Dick Clark Productions, which is no longer owned by the "American Bandstand" host, claims it has the rights "in perpetuity" as long as the show is on NBC. A federal court judge, Valerie Baker Fairbank, refused a motion yesterday to throw out the lawsuit and sent the dispute to trial -- promising a juicy Hollywood legal battle sometime next year.
